CAREER HISTORY:

Founder and owner of HORTSERVICES, the first IPM business based in Loudoun County. This premiere tree and shrub care service, based on landscape troubleshooting and customer service, is becoming well-recognized locally. As a Certified Arborist and IPM Practitioner, credibility and professionalism are top priorities in achieving success and repeat business. I have carved a niche in the Green Industry that has ensured me little competition. 1991-present.

Flight Attendant/Inflight Purser/Trainer-Instructor, PAN AM. 1979-1991. Based in London, New York, and Washington, DC, this position provided the following experiences:

Crew Management Communication
Training Troubleshooting
Customer Service Accountability
Protocol Food Service/ Presentation

PERSONAL: DOB July 9, 1957.

Raised in Texas, my Southern background and exposure to travel in an airline family has produced an individual comfortable with world cultures and thinking. I have resided in Countryside since 1983 and we regularly attend church in Ashburn. My other interests include: gardening, hiking, dancing, people, travel, music, writing, and my sons.

MOTIVATION:

I am currently involved in the formation of a Loudoun Valley Horticulture Association designed to improve networking, marketing, and promotion of nursery, landscape, and tree care companies. Our collective effort and communication will enhance our effectiveness and visibility in the community.

My reasons for going into this kind of business besides a great enjoyment in gardening are to raise awareness about safer alternatives for landscape pest management and to raise the level of professionalism and communication within the landscape industry. I am a member of the LCA (Landscape Contractor's Association in MD-VA-DC and ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

In an effort to influence both professional and layman circles about modern pest management methods, I have lectured to various groups including Master Gardeners and various garden clubs in Virginia. I have also written for a state gardening magazine and will be featured in both the summer and fall issues (1996) in the Virginia Gardening Guide on IPM related topics.

Bonnie is known as THE BUG LADY.

"Bugs are fascinating. Not all of them are bad. In fact, most bugs are good bugs. That is why we should learn more about the good ones and how they can keep many landscape pests in balance. Children are an excellent audience for influencing this perception."

"I love this stuff!
I love bugs!
I love plants!
We need them both!"
AND REMEMBER... IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL THE BUG LADY STINGS!

So, what does this have to do with being THE BUG LADY?

I LOVE WHAT I DO!
