1995 3A Final Four Bucs Season:
-
The 1995 Season was a major bright highlight of Berkeley Baseball. A
program that had not struggled, had yet to show a break through season
in the last ten years. With the addition of Keller and a stong 1994
season the Bucs were set for a monster year. Led by seniors 2B Chad
Harrod, SS Mike Uzdavines, 3B-P Chad O'Brien, OF David Kaul, and OF
Tom Shannon the Bucs leadership core was set. Sophmore Ryan Caradonna
was coming off an injured Fresman season steped in huge. His pitching
numbers: 11 wins and 3 losses, a 1.07 ERA, 49 K's, 18 BB's in 45
innings pitched. He coupled these stats with a .389 Batting Average.
Other contributers were Juniors Brad Hall (1B), Kevin Blocker (RF).
Sophmores Bryan Kenna (1B) and Brian Zinobar (C) were also asked to
be major contributors to the '95 season. The Bucs suffered early losses
to cross town rival Tampa Catholic but would rebound to beat the
Crusaders the second time around. The Bucs frustration had not ended
for the Bucs still failed to beat Bradenton Christian High School
for the Conference Championship for the second year in a row.
This did not halt the Bucs from making a run in the District Playoffs for the
Bucs enjoyed a seemingly easy ride into the State Final Four. The Bucs
than moved play to Sarasota where they played Tampa Catholic once
again for the District Title. Ryan Caradonna, who the Bucs had relied
on throughout the playoffs, would not be the one however to get the
victory. Brad Hall and Mike Uzdavines would pull the Bucs through
Districts. Into Regionals Caradonna once again would be called upon
to carry the Bucs. This included wins over Umatilla and Melbourne
Central Catholic. The Bucs connected for five home runs against MCC:
David Kaul, Mike Uzdavines,Tom Shannon, Bryan Kenna and Brad Hall.
A win over MCC clinched the Bucs first birth to Baseball States in
over ten years. The Bucs joined a feild consisting of North Florida
Christian, Keystone Heights School, and John Carrol High School. The
Bucs opened play against the future State Champions
North Florida Christian . The Bucs put their ace
Ryan Caradonna on the hill. Yet to no avail the Buca fell 7-0. Hampered
by a lack of hitting and defense the Bucs fell victom to the hot
NFC bats. Although a great season for the Bucs and its seniors. The
season ended on a somewhat sour note. Bucs Honors included Caradonna
being chosen second team all state, Uzdavines a first team selection
and Blocker and O'Brien chosen as thrird teamers.
